- Botanical Name: Calathea Rufibarba 'Furry Feather'
- Common Names: Peacock Plant, Zebra Plant
- Description: This Calathea Rufibarba also commonly called the furry feather comes with soft green leaves with a unique texture. Like all Calathea plants, the leaves adjust as the sun rotates throughout the day. Calathea Plants, native to tropical South and Central America, Africa, and the West Indies, are grown primarily for their beautiful, brightly colored, upright, oval leaves.
- Feel the soil to accurately gauge the dryness and water when the top layer of the soil is damp. Furry Feather Calathea prefers damp soil. This plant does not like to dry out, and it does not like to be soggy. Finding that middle ground between dry and saturated is ideal for keeping Furry Feather Calathea happy.
- Low indirect light is best for Furry Feather Calathea. Increased light can damage the sensitive foliage and dry out the soil and leaves. Avoid direct sunlight, which is more than the leaves can handle.
- Feeding Calathea helps this plant push out new leaves and flowers, but too much of a good thing can be damaging. Feed the Furry Feather Calathea when the plant is actively growing in the spring and summer. Use a water-soluble, balanced or nitrogen-rich fertilizer every two weeks.
